Like many visitors to Crete we made the drive over the mountains , on our first visit here, intent on visiting the south coast. Kantanos was a stop for a coffee the first time we drove the route. We saw what everyone else was eating and decided to stop for lunch. The food was amazing, all cooked fresh in their tiny kitchen, local ingredients and home produced pork. On this, our second trip to Crete, we sought the taverna out deliberately and once again we were not disappointed. Just order everything on the specials board, try everything they make! The prices are very, very good indeed. You will struggle to find better food in Western Crete.
